Child's Glider Rocker. 2000. From published plans, slightly modified. Solid cherry and
natural cane, solid brass swing rods, brass screws, oil varnish finish. This was a bear to
make. I worked on it on and off for a year, going backwards at times as I repaired grievous
errors, but it came out looking pretty good, and Julia even appears to like it! I wove the
cane, which while not terribly difficult was EXTREMELY tedious. This is done with a 'blind'
weave, where each strand of cane is glued into stopped holes. I think it's probably stronger
than a traditional weave where the holes go all the way through, but what a painstaking
process it is.
